What is the Collaborative AAHRPP Network (CAN)?
The Collaborative AAHRPP Network (CAN) is an initiative to:
- provide a forum to promote networking and sharing best practices outside the annual AAHRPP conference,
- create a pathway for AAHRPP to obtain timely feedback from organizations about their needs as well as AAHRPP policies, processes, and procedures, and
- leverage the experience and commitment of accredited organizations to identify issues adversely affecting human research protections.
We hope that the CAN will facilitate even greater understanding and awareness of issues of importance to all whose role is to help protect the human participants who make the enterprise possible.
Who can participate in the CAN?
The CAN is available to anyone from an human research protection program (HRPP) of an AAHRPP-accredited organization.
What are some of the CAN initiatives?
- Working Groups
- Current Working Group: Reaccreditation
- This working group, which was launched in February 2022, is exploring potential approaches to reaccreditation that would continue to support a rigorous accreditation process but also provide value to organizations that have completed at least 2 reaccreditation cycles. Members of this group represent a range of accredited Organizations.
- Upcoming Working Groups
- Integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into AAHRPP standards
- AAHRPP’s I-9 Standard
- Current Working Group: Reaccreditation
- 2023 CAN Conference Meeting
- AAHRPP held its first CAN pre-conference meeting at its 2019 Annual Conference in New Orleans. We are currently working on a meeting at the 2023 Annual Conference in Baltimore. The vision of the framers of this effort is that organizational representatives will come to the annual meeting of the CAN prepared to speak openly, share ideas, and work with their peers. While some will always be more talkative than others, the expectation of those who participate in the CAN conference meeting is that they will agree to take on active roles, serve on topic driven subcommittees, and be willing to take on “homework” when an issue cannot be fully addressed or resolved during the conference.
